Like many contemporary metal bands, Unleash the Archers enthusiastically flout genre divisions. Formed in 2007 and led by vocalist Brittney Hayes—a Bruce Dickinson sound-alike who prefers to go by Brittney Slayes—the Canadian band thrash and burn through power-metal epics (“Tonight We Ride”), heavy-metal riff clinics (“Shadow Guide”) and growling deathcore (“Cleanse the Bloodlines”). Albums such as 2017’s Apex and 2020’s Abyss reveal even deeper dimensions to Unleash the Archers’ sound, combining plot-driven lyrics with fantasy/sci-fi narratives and increasingly prominent synths.
