Joan Jett's first love was primal rock ‘n' roll from the ‘70s. Her tastes were fired up by scuzzy, glam-era party anthems that took the sweet/sour street attitude of ‘60s girl groups and added buzzsaw guitars (Bowie's “Rebel Rebel”) and monolithic hooks (Suzi Quatro's “48 Crash”). Jett's fascination with the obscene whiff of sex, meanwhile, can be traced back to the filthy, lascivious riffs of The Rolling Stones and AC/DC.
