In Brooklyn trio Au Revoir Simone's songs, the creaky wheeze and sigh of vintage keyboards and the tinny gallop of programmed drums conspire to create featherweight dream pop from another place and time. Formed in 2003, as electroclash was waning in popularity, the band approached retro-leaning, synth-based music from a different perspective—an organic, enchanted one. Their tunes have taken on depth and heft over time, inching closer to the three-dimensional reveries of Beach House, but Au Revoir Simone manage to retain a charmingly rickety aesthetic.
