Lyrics

Abolish: a verb. the way forward To formally put an end to a system, practice or institution Static: Reporting in - freedom 7 Did you know WE made our dreams come true? We designed the way forward Where we all got our own place to live That's good, cuz when it's cold out we stay warm The power grids - all solar, all day Clean water - life - preserved and shared Medicine - here for everybody Much of it coming from our Community gardens I like the way the plants taste - it's cool how they heal us, too I'm learning about that in my school, from Indigenous teachers And I'm learning their languages. I like it We have so many languages we get to hear everyday So many rhythms School is a vibe. Everybody gets to be exactly who they are I love my counselor that I talk to everyday. I feel good, you know And I'm okay when I feel "off" We circle up when something doesn't feel right - we take care of us Every student gets that support These days? Everybody's thriving. Livin' our ancestors' wildest dreams But can you believe there was a time when there were People who policed people? And in schools? I can't imagine a time where people Weren't in control of their own bodies Or how they expressed themselves (Ugh- I don't want to imagine it.) The culture was not OK. There was a huge obsession with labeling us Separating us... changing us. Choosing our genders for us Serving us punishment instead of nourishment when we needed help And the worst of the worst There were over 400 years where Black people were kidnapped and enslaved Then, after way too much time, Black people were "Set free" But not really cause the punishment, and having no rights continued It's like they kept creating ways to oppress And making other people not SEE how unfair it was Like thinking that policing "kept us safe" When it was the complete opposite Those were the years where oppression was the way of the world In all ways. No one was left unharmed by those old systems I bet you're wondering now how human beings could Ever let these things happen to other human beings? Well, this was Before reparations were a part of accountability Before every bit of land was returned to Indigenous people Before we built the world and protected the planet as we see it now No borders, no bias, none of that There was clearly so much that had to end For us all to truly begin to live It's my job now to report on this, and share it with you Because I am here, for us to live Abolition is the way, now. We doing this You comin'? Overlaps with Static: Freedom 7 - all in - copy that!
