An important and influential figure in British post-punk music, Gina Birch makes music that's both experimental and engaging, loaded with minimal yet effective melodic hooks, inventive arrangements, and lyrics that offer a witty, pointed perspective on daily life. A respected visual artist and filmmaker as well as a musician, Birch is a founding member of the groundbreaking post-punk group the Raincoats, and in times when that band was inactive, she made music as part of the Red Krayola, Dorothy, and many other groups. In the late 2010s, Birch issued her first solo material, and in 2023 she released her debut solo album, I Play My Bass Loud, on Third Man Records. Her second solo LP, 2025's Trouble, blended the energy of her best work with a broader instrumental palette and a mature lyrical outlook.
