The otherwise quiet student town of Potchefstroom was suddenly disrupted in 2006 by the sound of clanging guitars, fast drumming and hardcore vocals. It was the dawn of the Afrikaans Christian rock band Straatligkinders, and led by the larger-than-life Bouwer Bosch, they even arrived armed with their own genre. So popular did the group turn out to be that singles such as “Gedagte vir die Dag” and “Desvalido” are still frequently heard on campus radio across the country. This collection exposes the best of “Potchcore”.
