Letra

When the Velvet Underground started It was at a time in the '60s when, I mean, actually Didn't the Velvet Underground and Nico album come out the same year as Sergeant Pepper? And it certainly was quite different It was not, the Velvet Underground songs I mean, for many of us that was the group of the '60s' Not the Beatles, not the Jefferson Airplane Or any of the good vibes kind of group In New York Yeah, but, well, not only in New York I think there are people (nah in New York) Same for the Boca people, like New York, like We realized that when we left New York That New York might as well have been, you know The 51st state or something It's, it was (in the New York City) yeah (right) Like when you left, you might as well have gone to another country "Cause you know Where the rest of everything The rest of the world was not what was going on in New York And there was literally no connection between the two Nonetheless, it was an incredibly influential group There are people growing up in England Growing up in Cleveland, lots of other musicians Whether it's Brian Ferry or Ric O'Cassick or, I mean, whoever The Velvet Underground was very important to And it certainly came at a time when there was a whole kind of Hippie good vibes, ethics, and the Velvet Underground The songs that you were writing particularly were I thought about real things And I think you've said also that you had tried to make Songs more intelligent, or you just brought your sensibility to it And yet people thought that-that was all decadent Why? I don't know
