Offerings of Hand and Tongue

I used to sneer

I used to laugh

At those who'd keep a gilded past

Like a trophy in full view

That no present could live up to

But I fear I've become one of those

Because of how tight

I clutch your ghost

Can't set my restless hands

To a new craft

Not when they'd rather

Pick this scab

The enormity

Loss without end

A scale I can't quite comprehend

Like an ocean trench

Abstract inches on maps

Depicting depths of unimaginable black

And my love

I fear at last

I've found the one thing

I can't move past

The light of day fades

Fathoms overhead

While this drags me down to the sea bed
