ABOUT THE GUNMAN?
The camera pans over ruins,
You watch for the sirens
While the newscaster drones parade
The smiling faces of the victims displayed.
And if you can't contain your rage,
Better find an outlet for it
Once the soundbite's replayed—
Newsfeeds flush with elegies
Won't change the culture now.
But I don't mean to slander my soldiers at the front,
Just a friendly reminder: our groans are breath wasted.
All these passing distractions are stopping our work from getting done
And this divisive and mercurial path breeds hatred.

Prefer our private distractions
While the media magnates flay
Our flogged subconscious as the nightmare's relayed?
And if you can't dispel your fear,
You'll resuscitate confusion once the clarity clears.
Staid dissenters beckon
