Dirt Road to Heaven

I like drivin' alone sometimes

Turnin' left when I oughta turn right

Heavy on the pedal till the street signs lead to nowhere

No I don't listen to the radio

Just the tires on the open road

Homeward bound with the sound of that north wind blowin'

Wheels rollin'

To the freedom out beyond them downtown lights

The feelin' when you hit them Norway Pines

That reach up and touch the sky

That's where I'm headin'

When the man upstairs, he calls me back

I'll take a one way drive down a gravel path

And watch my last Minnesota sun settin'

And I'll go out, to cricket sounds, with the windows down

It's where my daddy built a pinewood shack

Had to cross a river and a railroad track

And to think he did all that just to take us fishin'

I drank my first Milwaukee's Best

Out on the lake that the Good Lord blessed
