Deputy

Guess that I'll live longer than some good ones Guess that I'll go sooner than some bad ones Cos the good lord gives and he takes away In a way that doesn't make sense to me Guess that it's a good job that he's the top dog And I am just a deputy Guess I could have ended up a narwhal Or some other ocean-dwelling animal But the big man didn't give me the choice To be a blue whale or a porpoise I'd have been a big deal as an elephant seal Or swimming as a manatee Time will tell the way that only time can If it's a good thing I was born a human With such big visions and such great plans But such a small mind and such tiny hands Yeah it's a good job that I'm not at the top I'm better as a deputy I'm better as a deputy I'd rather be a deputy
