Things I'll Never Do

Of all the things I'll never do

These were the ones I wanted the most

To hold my heart out without thought

To know for once that I wasn't lost

But these are things I'll never do

Lovely things I'll never share

Distant dragonflies of frost

That melt away when I come near

It's much too weak to last beneath the snow

The faint pathetic flickering of hope

Those gentle things are not for you

To find a haven in your arms

To fall and know that I would be caught

Warm, sweet things I'll never know

Stinging seeds that came to fall

On fallow soil where nothing grows

Be the slow river's flow

And yield to the waters that sang my childhood's sleep

Kneel, breathe out and let go

A moment of courage is all it takes

All I am, all I know

Dissolving in red swirls

Of all the things I'll never do

These were the ones I wanted the most

To fill my words and days with joy

To feel the love consuming the void

But these are things I'll never do

Just useless dreams that lingered on

They couldn't live here in the cold

And they won't matter when I'm gone
