You and me and the fault in our stars
In this world we are spinning
Like dogs chasing cars
We pretend it will all stay the same
But what's in an illusion anyway?
I'm taking it back, and I'm running fast
I try to improve, but I can't get past this
Just because the past rears it's ugly head
Doesn't mean we lie in a vengeful bed
Yet I'm not the person you want me to be
Too often you expect too much of me
I know, I should take this all back
Perhaps, I should take this on the road.
So tell me what you think makes sense
'Cause I'm running my mouth
While I'm mending up fences
I'm trying to do the best that I can
But my best is never enough for you, man
I'm all worked up
But I'm out to sea
I dared to think
I deigned to believe
I'm walking up to the abyss again
Staring my fate down to the bitter end
So you'll remind me where you think I'm flawed
And I'll hide behind these same four walls
Tell me should I stay no or tell me should I go?
And now I walk it back from the ledge (stop, 1, and 2)
So All we have to do is pretend
(Just say NO!)
I'm stepping it back
When I look at the stars
I'm trying to leap
But I know I won't go far
Working up the nerve of what to say
But wisdom won't come to me today
I'm seeking the truth
While I'm losing my mind
I try to be nice
And I try to be kind
But the words just come out
with a bitter edge
They're weaponized to inflict damage (armed to singe you my friend)
For that's the nature of our universe
Our orbits were set to collide from birth
Because we've taken it too far (it's the essence of who we are)
It's the fault in our stars
