Empty Avenues

Someday someone might not believe my story's true

When I feel into a life that wasn't mine

And sang the words that other men would often sing

Reminisced the days of rose and wine

I never thought that there would ever come a day

When I would have to live alone or die

My tears would run and fill up empty avenues

Now suddenly those avenues are dry

So I say let's get the music started while we can

Bring yourself to the corner for dancing and wine

Let's pack it up and do it all again

Cause we'll be singing together somewhere down the line

I'd never want to make a scene in front of you

But it brought me down it brought me to my knees

Forever fallen from the man I used to be

When I was flying like the boy on the trapeze

I lost the chance to colorize my poetry

& I could only sing in shades of gray

But you write a song & everyone comes back again

& Suddenly the band begins to play

So I say let's get the music playing while we can

Let's pack it up and do it all again

Cause we'll be singing together somewhere down the line

I fear someday they won't believe my story's true

But I can tell you it was all too real

Now I'm looking down on all these crowded avenues

High atop this spinning ferris wheel
