Pulling Weeds

She irons my shirt and says there's orange juice

Hums a hymn to wake the day

Smiles through the silent "I don't want to's"

She pins the courage to her face

From nurseries to college dorm rooms

How the time does slip away

She hugs my neck and says "I love you"

"Don't you forget these words I say"
