Once upon a time
I met a monkey
He was a friend of mine
He lived out in the jungle all alone
One day he said to me
Life can be lonely out in the jungle
And don't forget about me
Keep me in your prayers for a while
Every day he had prayed
To the god of the monkeys
For someone to come and save him
From the jungle, he was all alone
He did his best to explain
Life was so lonely out in the jungle
And nobody knew his pain
Was there just one thing that I could do for him?
And the monkey said:
There's a banana I've been dreaming of
There's a banana just for me
There's a banana I've been dreaming of
Oh gee
I had to be on my way
Out of the jungle
The monkey he had to stay
Where the god of the monkeys needed him to be
That day he said to me:
Keep on believing, keep on dreaming
And don't forget about me
Keep me in your prayers for a while
And every day I prayed
To the god of the monkeys
For someone to come and save him
From his misery, he was all alone
I did my best to explain
Life was so lonely out in the jungle
And he was dreaming in vain
I repeated what the monkey said to me
Oh he said:
There's a banana I've been dreaming of
There's a banana just for me
There's a banana I've been dreaming of
Oh gee
Many years from then
I went back to the jungle
To see my monkey friend
But when I got to the jungle
He was nowhere to be found
I thought my monkey had died
There were bananas eaten and scattered
And as I began to cry
A voice began to sing out from the trees
And it said:
There's a banana I've been dreaming of
There's a banana just for me
There's a banana I've been dreaming of
Oh gee
There's a banana I've been dreaming of
There's a banana just for me
There's a banana I've been dreaming of
Oh gee
Oh gee
