This is the story about what happened to Mickey when when was helping a great and powerful sorcerer
The music is called 'The Sorcerer's Apprentice' by Paul Dukas
Let's begin now
Once upon a time in a deep dark cave way down underground
There lived a mighty sorcerer
Now, a sorcerer is kind of like a magician, and this sorcerer was a very fine sorcerer
He could do all the very best magic tricks
Like changing bats into butterflies, making diamonds out of warts
And even changing small black cats into large white elephants
The sorcerer had an apprentice
Now, an apprentice is, well
A kind of helper or assistant sorcerer, and his name was Mickey
And he could even do a few small magic tricks himself
Like changing a teardrop into a dewdrop
But he could hardly wait until he was a full-fledged sorcerer and he could wear the master's magic hat
In the meantime, though, he had to do the chores
When the sorcerer was away someplace sorcering, Mickey would try on the master's magic hat
But nothing ever happened
It just fell down over his eyes
And he couldn't see his magic tricks, even if he could do them
One day, the sorcerer had to go out of town
"Mickey," he said, "when I return, I expect that big tub in the hall filled with water from the fountain
Now get to work"
And he was gone—poof!
In a purple cloud
The minute the sorcerer was gone, Mickey put on the magic hat way back so it wouldn't fall down over his eyes
"Now," thought Mickey, "who will I command to do my work?"
He looked around and saw an old broom in the corner
"You," said Mickey in his best sorcerer's voice, "you, broom there, get up"
And he glared very hard at the broom, and he spoke the sorcerer's magic words
Mickey looked, and then he looked again
He could hardly believe his eyes
The broom had grown two arms, and it was moving
It picked up the bucket, and Mickey led it out to the fountain
Mickey hardly dared to breathe, lest he break the spell
The broom filled the bucket and swept back along the corridor, hardly spilling a drop, mind you
And emptied the bucket into the tub
Then the broom made another trip, and another
So Mickey just sat down to watch
"Oh, surely," thought Mickey, "when the master returns and sees
What I can do, he'll give me a magic hat of my very own"
Mickey closed his eyes and imagined himself a full-fledged sorcerer
Mickey, the mighty master of magic
He fell asleep and dreamed he was soaring high in the sky, way up in the clouds
The stars winked a welcome, and Mickey winked back
Comets flashed through space at his command
They wiggled their tails at him, and Mickey wiggled back
Why, he just had to raise his little finger, and the Milky Way changed to chocolate
And then peppermint, and then pineapple
And now, Mickey dreamed he was standing on top of a high, high mountain
And the ocean waves were breaking and splashing all around him
He made the thunder thunder and the lightning flash
And the waves grew higher and higher, all the way up to Mickey
And do you know what?
He realized he was soaked
Mickey woke with a start from his dream
The whole room was filled with water, and still the broom was bringing more
"Oh, stop," cried Mickey, "oh, stop!"
But the broom wouldn't stop
Mickey grabbed a hatchet, and do you know what?
He chopped at the broom, and he chopped, and chopped until he chopped it into a thousand pieces!
And now everything was quiet
Very quiet
"Oh, well," Mickey thought, "I've stopped the flood
But I'd better get the mop quickly and clean up"
But just then, he heard strange noises
And do you know what?
All those thousand splinters of broom
Had become a thousand full-grown brooms!
As if by magic!
Which it was
Now a thousand brooms were bringing water to fill the tub
Mickey slammed the door, but what is one small apprentice against a thousand magic brooms?
"Oh, stop!" he cried
"S-stop!"
"Oh, oh, now I've really done it," thought Mickey
"And how will I ever explain to the Master?
Oh, if only I knew the magic word for 'stop'
Maybe he could find it among the magic books
Oh, dear, now, let's see, I must hurry
Uh, uh, uh, love potions?
No, no, no, werewolves?
Mm-mm-mm, warts?
Uh-uh, waterfalls?
Oh, heavens no!
Oh, where are the B's, the B's for brooms!"
Now Mickey found himself in the middle of a huge whirlpool
Going 'round and 'round, and down and down
Suddenly, a huge shadow appeared
It was the Master
He had returned!
"Oh, save me! Save me!" cried Mickey
The Master looked a little angry
And then he spoke the magic words
And now the room was nice and dry
And the broom leaned peacefully in the corner
Everything was like it had been before
Well, everything except Mickey
He was cold, and wet, and he was a very repentant apprentice
"Oh, I'm so sorry
What are you going to do with me?" Mickey sniffled
Well, the sorcerer didn't say one word
But he took the broom in his hand
He turned Mickey around, he took careful aim
The end!
The next music you will hear is called 'Pomp and Circumstance' by Sir Edward Elgar
It will play while I tell you a story about how two of my favorite ducks
Donald and Daisy, helped out on a very famous boat ride
Ready?
Let's begin
When Daisy beard the sound of Noah's horn, she knew it was time to head for the arc
Noah was calling two animals of every kind from around the world
Quickly she gathered her things and put on a lock that had a picture of her and Donald
Donald was supposed to help Noah get the animals onboard the arc
But where was he?
Donald was in the backyard, resting
Noah stomped up to Daisy's house
"Donald," he shouted, "the animals have to be on the arc before it's starts to rain"
"Rain," Donald laughed, "it was a bright sunny day
There was lots of time to get ready"
Then it started to pour
Donald skedaddled for the arc just as two turtles were crossing his part
He tripped and landed in a puddle
As Daisy gave him her handkerchief, her special locket slipped off and fell in the puddle
Donald fished it out and gave it back to her
Daisy kissed him and sweetly waved bye
Donald marched over the animals and pointed to the arc
"Get on," he said
"No," they answered
They did not want to get on the boat
But just then, there was a huge clap of thunder, and the animals raced to get in line
Donald checked off each pair of animals as they arrived
The hippos, the birds, the beavers, but then he came to Daisy
Where was she?
Daisy was just about to start up the ramp when she saw an elephant nearly crush a pair of little gray mice
But Daisy scooped them up, and then followed the elephant up the ramp
Donald couldn't see her, and anxiously he climbed over the top of the elephant to look for her
As soon as Daisy got inside the ship, she looked for Donald
She opened a window just in time to see Donald running toward their home
A huge wave was about to crash over it
She saw the little house get swept away
Donald had disappeared
Well, Donald had managed to grab hold of the door to the ark just as it was closing
But Daisy never saw him come in
Each of them thought the other hadn't made it into the ark
In the belly of the ship, Donald tried to keep the woodpeckers from drilling holes in the walls
The ark rocked back and forth, and the animals slid from one end to the other
After forty days and forty nights, it finally stopped raining
The sun broke through the clouds, and all the animals burst onto the deck for a breath of fresh air
But the ark was so big that Donald and Daisy still hadn't seen each other
Donald was trying to follow Noah's orders to send out a dove to look for dry land
Donald gave the dove a huge heave-ho
The female bird started to cry
That made Donald remember Daisy
He thought he'd never see her again
The female dove flew to the other side of the ship and landed next to Daisy
All the other animals were in pairs
The giraffes, and the zebras nuzzled, and the penguins cuddled
Just then, the dove returned with a branch from an olive tree
Donald went below deck to get the ship ready for landing
The floodwaters started to sink, and the boat went spinning around and around
And then there was a bump
The jolt sent Donald flying off a plank and through an open window
He grabbed the tail of a crocodile, who grabbed the tail of a snake
The snake wrapped itself around a post, and Donald was yanked back into the ark
Daisy heard a bang against the window
She looked out, but no one was there
And then it was time for the animals to leave the ark
Donald stood at the doorway directing traffic, but one of the hippos stepped on his toe
Then an elephant stepped on his head, and Donald fell through the floor just before Daisy went by
Slowly, Daisy walked down the ramp
Her head was hung in sorrow
She reached for her locket again and felt only the broken string
The last to leave the boat was Noah and his wife
Noah gave Donald a grateful pat on the head
Sadly, Donald began to sweep up
Something gold caught his eye
He reached for it
Another hand like his own reached for it too
He looked up, it was Daisy
Daisy had found her locket and her beloved Donald
She leaped for joy and gave him a great big hug and a kiss
They walked off the ark to make a new home for themselves, right over there, under the rainbow
