Gazing Globe

In the night when you wake up slow,

 In the dim light of the hall,

 Breathe in and breathe out again.

 Train your eyes to see in the night,

 And make your way outside,

 To the flower garden underneath the moon.

 You’re all wired anticipation,

 A buzzing string waiting,

 For someone to turn on the distortion.

 It’s a dark night, but you can see in the dark,

 Eyes adjusted.

 A movement in the gazing globe might catch your sight,

 Like a shirt caught on a fence post, 

 A tear in the fabric, pulling you back to it.

 A reflection of some shape forming there,

 Among the weeds and the blades of grass. 

 I saw your reflection in the globe.

 I saw your reflection in the gazing globe.
