Driving down the highway It's getting pretty late I've got the hammer down I'm on Rt. 28 When off on the side of the road Little dolls tied to a cross like a headstone Or a roadside memorial From a life on a cellphone To being tied around a telephone poll On Route 28 Where all the trains roll by And the cars go flyin' One of these days You might lose your way On Rt. 28 Down by the riverbanks As I try to take a break After a long night of driving (On route 28) When some screeching tires as a car rolls by on the Wrong side of the road followed by an explosion Cause they were dozing off On Route 28 Where all the trains roll by And the cars go flyin' One of these days You might lose your way On Rt. 28 Like a roadside memorial Where someone took the time to go back and say You were a life worth celebrating That got lost on the side of the road Now a place to pray on Route 28
