It Takes a Long Time to Wait

Climb up the chair by the window You were looking for your friend Mama said "they'll be here soon" Makes me wonder what's in your head Soon that's a tough one All it means is not right now And for you just a couple of moments Are the same as a hundred hours What to do When all you want is forever away Or maybe it's soon Either way It takes a long time to wait We used to dream by the window Lots of laughter, steady smiles Something pure, something simple Now I can't take a joke and there's dirt in my eyes I've been trying to clean them But there's dust on the other side I see you so dimly right now And I'm waiting I've been waiting for things to go bright What to do When all you want is forever away Or maybe it's soon Either way It takes a long time to wait Keep a chair by the window For the waiting in the night And we pray for the morning Though we can't find a hint of the light Can you give me a window Just a glimpse of what heaven is like I've been looking for something But I can't see a lot with these same old tired eyes
