Morning Person

Seems it doesn't come naturally, opening the heart

Not like a snowdrop in the springtime, that just can't wait to start

No, I'm all closed up and buried in myself

It's lonely but I do it so well

But I've loved before and I'll love again

I will disinfect these wounds and try to heal them when I can

And remember what I learned from a lover way back when

She told me "I am not a morning person

Now I remember my times tables, and all the tiny parts of cells

But no one taught me how to rearrange my heart for someone else

I've been selfish and maybe cruel, just to keep myself from pain
