A Saturday night she went out with her crew,

In her cups - yes, she was

She was me,

She was you.

A blonde Twenty three

Doesn’t know that she’s free

As a hot summer night

At the deep end of June The last round of drinks

That was what did her in, Or the sweet Chardonnay, or the tonic and gin…

Remember twenty three?

All immortals were we

But regretting is all that she has, and memories

She wishes she never got into her car on that night

On account of that boy and the stupidest fight!

In her dreams she runs back to her friends to confide

And one of them helps her and gives her a ride….

She wakes up

To The buzzer each day

They just all fade away

Ten more years she’ll live here

With a night she can’t erase

Like her parents broken heart or the scar on her face…

Tall and strong he comes in

With “kid in a candy store” eyes

He’s won a carnival game

And makes quite a prize

How can she be protected from a system so shameless

He says he’s a woman,

But he’s mean

And he’s dangerous…

He sleeps in her cell

And no one can see or hear him

When she wakes up in the dark

With his breath in her ear

The judge gave him kindness-

He has a merciful flaw

But she should have thought twice before breaking the law

She’s a misbehaving woman with a sentence to serve

Ended up there with him? Well - she got what she deserved.
