In the town we were raised

We all honored the High Holy Days

Kept traditions alive

And respected the old sacred ways

But the days that we loved most dearly

All the children would agree

Were the special ones with visits from

The Man from Galilee

When He came to our town

We would all run around with a smile

With Him life was so fun

We were second to none for a while

And the names that our parents gave us

He'd forgotten or just ignored

The new ones that He gave were

The names we adored

The one who sang, He called "songbird"

The sweetest sound I'd ever heard

He called one girl "beautiful"

Because He knew her heart was full

And then there were those crazy boys

He called them all His joyful noise

He took the time to know us well

He loved us more than tongue can tell

He said He liked my curly hair

I made Him smile just being there

He said to Him, I really am

As gentle as a little lamb

Talitha was the name He chose

So when He calls, I'd know

That was my name

And those names that He gave us

Were truly treasures back then

And when Jesus was gone

We all sang a song about them
