Red is the colour of a war

Of blood shed by the soldiers gone before

Of bravery as in the face of fear

Of families and lovers torn apart

Of longing for a safe returning home

Red are the fire flames that burn

Until from war the soldiers will return

To warm the homes of those who wait in hope

But the colour for a miracle is white

When the soldiers called a truce one Christmas night

And from their snowy trenches rose to sing

Oh holy night and then God save the king. 

What a beautiful, unprecedented sight

To see soldiers on both sides give up the fight 

And for a moment let their voices ring

If only all the world would learn to sing

Red are the poppies that we wear

To show that we remember, that we care

Lest we forget the sacrifice they made
