People Like Me

People like me have a college degree that we don’t use

And, we’re still payin’ off the loan

One day when we finally do

We’ll celebrate for a day or two

And then go borrow some more just to buy a home

You see people like me are poor, but we ain’t starvin’

In fact, quite often the opposite is true

We’ll try bein’ vegetarian

For oh, maybe a month and then

Fall off the wagon in a pit of barbecue

And it’s one more day here in the good ol’ USA

And I pray that she will stay forever free

I’ve got a little to spare

And I do my best to share

Like I should, life is good for people like me

People like me still know how to write in cursive

We used to mail love letters when we were young

We’ve got the latest technology

The high-speed, high-def media feed

But sometimes it sure feels good to just unplug

You see people like me have fond memories of Grandma’s kitchen

Back in a time when time didn’t move so fast

You can’t stop the world from changin’

And it could use some rearrangin’

We just hope we don’t lose the best things from the past
