As Grandfather Sun would rise higher in the sky each day bringing its life-giving warmth to all of creation we would work diligently enjoying the fresh, cool air. But by the time the sun was very high in the sky the forests would become silent. Different creatures would take this opportunity to rest and take a break from the heat. Not a bad idea! Around this time on our family day out berry harvesting, we’d also take a break, have some lunch and maybe take a swim or perhaps a little snooze?! This is the time of Miskomini-Giizis or the ‘Clusterberry Moon’. These days, some people call it ‘July’.
The sun is at its hottest and the days are long. By midday, and after a nice meal…it’s time to dream a little!...
These ‘clusterberries’, today known as raspberries and blackberries, were very good for aiding digestion, if eaten in the right quantity. But if you ate too many of them…well, let’s just say, you shouldn’t eat too many of them!
