Better Than Yesterday

I'm not going to yell at the kids today And I'm gonna stay sober next time we play Then maybe I'll remember how the songs go I won't medicate with anything stronger than tea I'll only hang around with people who are worthy of me And next year I'm gonna learn how to say no Can't help but think that if I had nine lives The pressure would be off And I could be everything I want But as it is, I'm busy sorting through the past Don't want to be perfect Just want to be better than yesterday Is that too much to ask I'll stay in the moment, hear everything that you say And respond in the most compassionate way Never once will I look at my phone I'll spend money on only what I need I'll be nice to myself when I don't succeed And I won't take shit from anyone Can't help but think that if I had nine lives The pressure would be off And I could be everything I want And one of those times I'll get it right But as it is, I'm busy sorting through the past Don't want to be perfect Just want to be better than yesterday Is that too much to ask I just want to give more than I take I want to finish what I start I want to love it all with all my body and my heart I just want to be hot until I die Just want to inspire all these billions with the brilliance of my mind I wanna be bruised by God I wanna be singled out strung up in a strong light Cleaned out from the inside Isn't this what I came to do Isn't this what it means to try But I know this ego's never gonna be satisfied Can't help but think that if I had nine lives The pressure would be off And I could be everything I want And one of those times I'll get it right But as it is, I'm busy sorting through the past Don't want to be perfect Just want to be better than yesterday Is that too much to ask
