The Pilot

There's a man outside

And he's sitting close to the street.

With his arms by his side

And he's holding onto memories

All the things he had

Forty years ago, or maybe more

He felt alive, now life's a chore.

He holds his hands tight by his side.

He pinches skin to feel alive.

If only he could just go back in time

Well he fell again

Gravity's another enemy.

He can't understand

Why this is how it's meant to be.

Everything he had

Forty years ago or maybe more

He built a house out on the shore.

The ocean swallowed it up whole

The way that time will take its toll

Worst of all he just can't comprehend.

It's hard enough to live so long

Just to lose it all

All the things he had are gone.
