A New Dawn

I've risen early enough

To witness the start of a brand new day

Sun rising languidly over a blue horizon

Nudging away the vestiges of dawn

Colours, hues, merging, birthing a new morning

Early due, glistening on wild grass in virgin light

Highlight the bright greens of early spring

Oh, Spring, how we've missed your face

Winter... you're nothing but a bad memory

With your long, long nights, and your low, low light

Where the sun barely skimmed the skeletal lifeless trees

You felt like a lifetime.

But now, the sky's assumed a crazy blue

I can feel the sunshine on my skin

It feels so good

A feeling of joy with the world

The call of distant birdsong

As the early heat disperses morning mist

Sun triumphs over cloud

I say a prayer for what we all have here

And for all the simple things I hold most dear.
