Coming up on that great divide, still a couple hours left to drive

Early evening sun hits me square between the eyes

It's been a while that I've been leaving, longer gone I'll be in time

I'm dirty and I'm tired headed for the big northern sky

Swear that I could see forever, lights dance across the sky

As the sun goes down and the shadows disappear

I learned how to say her name, still a stranger just the same

Always heard how beautiful she was this time of year

I got tired of feeling alone, in the place I once called home

That godforsaken place that's killing me

I'm going to Helena, where I can think a little clearer

But could she embrace someone like me

Does she even need a man like me

I sit and watch that morning light creep up from the east

And the horizon change from midnight blue to red

Realized something in the calm of night, that the dawn could not deny

The life I'd grown accustomed to was dead

For now I've got to go back home, to the solitude I've known
