Years from now she'll be on her own

Her husband left

He didn't think she was pretty anymore

Years from now

In a tiny apartment

First floor of the building

She's too close to the ground

And the worst thing about it is she could see it all happening

It's played out in front of her since she was fourteen

Forty now

She's got no place to be

Except her ground floor apartment on some random street

Nobody visits so she won't memorise the the address

Muscle memory takes her to her bed

She's not paralysed but she might as well be

The way she never goes out but also never sleeps It's like everything just goes on without her

And the worst part about it is she would take the leap

If she could just get herself on her wretched feet

She would climb up those stairs to the place they say heaven should be

But in her little world there is nothing more daunting

Than the thirty floor stairwell

Takes one look she's exhausted

Yeah the saddest part is that's the only thing stopping her from haunting the building she's in

Years from now she'll get up in the morning

Look out to the sidewalk the people walking and maybe decide to stop

People watching

Get out of the hole she's been in

She'll walk for a reason that isn't to end it

Get all the way there and decide that she's earned it

That makes it okay if you think about it
