Though Gringo Star is decidedly not the Latin Beatles tribute its name might suggest, the band does deal in Fabs-esque vocal harmonies and jangly Rickenbacker guitars, albeit with a neo-garage rock edge that’s as much Chicago as it is Cavern Club. The Atlanta-based combo’s debut album All Y'all leaned towards the poppier end of the ‘60s garage spectrum, matching punk-ish energy with bubblegum melodies, shaking tambourine, and reverb-y surf guitar lines, all the while hiding socially-conscious lyrics underneath the catchy tunes. Also known for its admirable live work ethic, the combo pulled the neat trick of garnering enthusiastic attention from critics and fans alike.
