Biografia dell'artista
The Swedish pop group Ace of Base conquered the world in the ’90s with a series of inescapable Europop earworms.
• Ace of Base has its roots in Tech-Noir, an electronic group featuring siblings Jonas, Linn, and Jenny Berggren, plus their friend Ulk Ekberg.
• Ekberg claims he came up with the name Ace of Base while watching the music video for Motörhead’s “Ace of Spades” while nursing a hangover.
• The reggae-tinged 1992 single “All That She Wants” blew up in Europe, earning Ace of Base a US deal with Arista Records.
• Ace of Base topped the Billboard 200 with 1993’s The Sign, a US version of their European debut, Happy Nation. Three of the album’s singles reached the Top 5 on the Billboard Hot 100, including “The Sign,” which hit No. 1 and became the biggest-selling single of 1994.
• Ace of Base’s 1998 follow-up, The Bridge, went platinum in the US but failed to deliver another Top 10 hit.
• The group’s third album, 1998’s Flowers (Cruel Summer in the US) yielded a No. 10 US hit with “Cruel Summer,” a cover of the Bananarama classic.
• In the years following the 2002 album De Capo, both Linn and Jenny left the band. Ace of Base returned in 2010 with The Golden Radio, featuring new vocalists Clara Hagman and Julia Williamson.
In 2015, Ace of Base released Hidden Gems, a collection of B-sides and unreleased tracks. A second volume followed in 2020.•
