Pieces of Time

Don’t know how to write a book

Don’t know how to fly

Don’t know where the air comes from

That keeps us all alive

I walk down the streets you do

On a different day

But all the places I used to see

Have all gone away

It might be that I’m growing old

It might be I’m too young

But turning darkness into light

Is a job I can’t get done

I only know to watch the clock

As if it was a sign

And mark the notes on the page

In pieces of time

When you can be with the one’s you long to see

When the promises made

Finally come to be

There’s not much that comes

With hoping for the best

Keeping hands upon the wheel

Seems to be the test

When you let go and let it drift

You fall so far behind

So I keep my hands upon the wheel

And follow the lines
