Lindeman Again

Les would say the sixties were the golden years

When all his lucky stars fell into line

He was young and strong and his spirit of adventure

Saw him living in the islands at the time

Hayman, Happy Bay and Daydream

But Lindeman was always number one

It was there he worked with John and Bob on the old Elizabeth E

And there he met and fell in love with mum

Roz came north looking for a future

And Lindeman was where she found her niche

Started her own hair and beauty parlour

In a little bure on the beach

She loved to watch the ocean in the moonlight

Till one night Les convinced her to come in

And once she put her toes into the water

She realized her future was with him

And years later back in Melbourne when he'd had a few

He'd go out on the deck and rest his eyes

And pretty soon that weathered face would light up with a grin

And Les was back on Lindeman again

There aren't a lot of choices with a family

And little kids can't live on island time

The Harvey's headed south down to the city

The Whitsundays still played on Les' mind

And thirty years go by before you know it

And Les knew he was running out of steam

The thought of going back up to the islands

Just became a lovely distant dream

Then one night with the family gathered 'round him

We said goodbye and watched him close his eyes

And once again that weathered face lit up with a grin

And Les was back on Lindeman again

The last thing that he said was John's come to take me fishing

And Les was back on Lindeman again

Oh, Les was back

He's gone home

He's gone back to Lindeman again
