Pessimist

My best friend got a $30,000 raise And I can't even sit down and concentrate I took time to pursue what I dreamed of But all I'm doing's watching "Love is Blind" and eating pizza My sister's moving to the suburbs; she just got engaged And I haven't washed my hair in six or seven days I thought 27'd look a little different Instead I'm in therapy and can't make a decision And oh, that's how it goes Sometimes the life you envision don't turn out that way, I suppose And oh, that's how it is Sometimes you step up to the plate, trust your fate, but then swing and miss Or maybe I'm a pessimist I sit there quietly aspiring to change the world Replaying all the things I dreamt of as a little girl The kind of daydreams that leave you smiling at the sky It's like I woke up one day and 20 years went by Oh, that's how it goes Sometimes the life you envision don't turn out that way I suppose And oh, that's how it is Sometimes the plans you map out in your head simply cease to exist Or maybe I'm a pessimist This life, it's all just glass half full Or glass half empty kind of people I will try to rewrite my book Close my eyes and change my outlook This one is for the underdog stuck in comparison A little strength is all we need and we can heal within True victory is inner peace and simple gratitude As long as we're breathing we are worthy too As long as we're breathing we are worthy too Oh, that's how it goes Sometimes we fail, but in time we prevail, long as we have hope And oh, that's how it is One foot in front of the other and losses can turn into wins And we can all be optimists
