When the day has finally ended,
and the kids are fast asleep,
and the house is good and quiet,
without one single peep,
and with Santa's sleigh now nearing,
and my last report all filed,
my Christmas Eve is gearing up
to be Scout Elf-irriffically, wonderfully wild!
(I'm gonna make this the best Christmas ever!)
Grab the garland, hang more holly,
make the place look good and jolly,
set the mood for Christmas magic,
turn the lights on low.
Bake some cookies 'cause I ate one,
Count the carrots on the plate,
run to the family room,
play carols on the radio.
String some popcorn, check the letter,
don a festive Christmas sweater,
straighten up the star that tops the tree.
Pack my suitcase 'cause I'm going,
listen up for ho-ho-ho-ing,
Make it perfect, make it merry as can be!
It's the Night Before Christmas,
the best that we've had yet.
The Night Before Christmas,
everything is ready and it's set.
There's joy and excitement,
no worries, no dread...
Ahh, oh no! Is that a little kid out of bed?
Launch a sturdy candy cable,
quickly leap onto the table,
Shush the dog and calm the kitty
as the mayhem mounts.
Step on broken decorations,
lower lofty expectations,
lure the kid back to his pillow,
every second counts.
Get the Elf Pets at the ready,
hold on tight and hold on steady,
have to hurry, have to not lose heart.
Don't give up and don't get tired,
stay awake and stay inspired...
but my festive plan is falling all apart!
It's the Night Before Christmas,
but it's not how this should go.
The Night Before Christmas,
I'm wondering will Santa even show?
But just as the little boy crawls back in bed
and visions of sugarplums dance in his head
What to my wond'ring elf eyes does appear...
a red and gold sleigh with a host of reindeer!
SANTA! Whew!
To my happy heart a-pounding,
down the chimney he comes bounding,
with a bundle full of toys balanced on his back.
Eyes a-twinkle, nose of cherry,
cheeks like roses, oh so merry,
and it's thrilling watching presents spilling from his pack.
When he finally turns and sees me,
how I laugh and feel at ease,
he snaps his fingers and it's quite a sight.
With his magic overflowing,
Christmas Spirit's only growing,
Santa knows the way to make it all alright.
The Night Before Christmas,
the best that we've had yet.
The Night Before Christmas,
this clearly is a year I won't forget.
But just before leaving we stop and take in
what a magical season and night this has been.
And then with a nod and a final goodbye,
up the chimney we rise and then take off and fly
so fast through the sky,
past the stars shining bright,
Merry Christmas to all
and to all a good night!
