Once upon a time in land from the country
There’s a girl that loves a guy
Everybody wanted her money and break her heart
She wouldn’t hear a thing they’d say
Yeah, she was a good girl
That homegrown kind
He was a cowboy, he rode a time
She said she was gonna change him
She had it in her head
Well i’d like to say she did, yeah she tried her best
Well once upon a time he messed up
He left her standing in a cloud of dust
He pointed that truck towards that midwest sky
Like a cowboy does
He hates himself for that decision
Spends his whole life sitting there wishing
He could do it all different, maybe out of real life
He’d change a few lines, once upon a time
When he had her thinking, he’d give her that big rig
And white picked king, a couple dogs, couple kids
And a happy ever after
Well they could’ve had it all, back when he had her
Well once upon a time he messed up
