Testi

Here in front of my wide, wide window
Sheltered from the sun and from the rain
What a view I contemplate, behind the locked and bolted gate
And the guards, and I don't even know their names
You cannot see from this wide, wide window
That I'm surrounded by a wall that's ten feet high
Crowned on that, thorns are standard
Rolls of razor wire meander
And parallel lines that are electrified
Oh my wide, wide window with its fine, fine view
Most times I just walk past it
I haven't got a clue
Looking out of my wide, wide window
Boda-bodas weave through lines of static cars
Packed matatus madly beeping
People jostle to make a living
And I'm just here singing and playing guitar
Far enough from my wide, wide window
The stockade over which the empty-handed dwell
And in that sweep that's in between us
Land that's lush and of the greenest
And when they build on this, I'll just find somewhere else
Oh my wide, wide window with its fine, fine view
Most times I just walk past it
I haven't got a clue
All my life, there's been wide, wide windows
Sheltered from the sun and from the rain
With their blessings and their plenty
And a view that's rarely empty
But I hardly ever see it as that way
And you can look up at those wide, wide windows
And be bitter on the outside looking in
Well, it's true there are such places
But most of the human race is
Looking up at the window that's your own
Oh my wide, wide window with its fine, fine view
Most times I just walk past it
I haven't got a clue
