Testi

Settling is the 5:40AM morning dew,
the air hasn't quite yet had its top up of CO2
They're out of sight, out of mind
the atrocities of mankind
until I catch myself in a reflective surface
I cycle through a muddle of Laira's history
lining embankment road on plaques,
always way too busy to notice them
I'm pedalling around the puddles and the cracks
Bursting through the tarmac are roots you can't hold back
the infrastructure repairs'll be chosen by a monkey
dropping a pencil somewhere on a map
I'm zooming along, like I'm late for something or someone
but the only thing at home that's waiting for me
is a cup of decaffeinated tea - I'm trying to cut back you see
My consciousness, it hangs in a harness rigged to let it fall
(A rain drop in the Plym, the sound to the sea)
It's at the mercy of a merciless mortality,
asleep in the arms of an indifferent eternity
(Don't mind me, I'm just contemplating infinity)
And the air from which my words hang
should be commodified and sold to me in a bag
I wouldn't put it past capitalism to make my fiction fact
but at least I would think before I open my trap
And I am zooming along, like I'm late for something or someone
But the only thing at home that's waiting on me
is a cup of decaffeinated tea
And I am zooming along, like I'm bursting for a wee
Writing lines like that in my songs these days
so you don't take me so seriously,
I must have had caffeinated tea
Stop my bike down by the banks of the Plym
I wonder how many times each stone's been skimmed
I look at the tricketty tracketty trains in Laira depot
Their wheels roll me home to be with you
Can't always guarantee a locomotive's functionality
If their wheels won't turn, I'll just get there on these two
Zooming along, like I'm late for something or someone
But the only thing at home that's waiting on me
Is a cup of decaffeinated tea
Zooming along, killing time and wasting space
Making little use of my silly old self with a smile upon my face
