I feel the grip of contrition

It dwells within

How can this lie be lived?

Behind ornate facades

Nothing remains

But a false sense of hope

A momentary bliss received by disdain's kiss

I wish it hadn't come to this

I have nothing to give

You have nothing to take

The flesh has wilted, and the petals, in their wake

Force me to accept that beauty is fleeting

And cursed to wither away

And all this suffering shall end

The vibrant colors have lost their luster

As apathy begins to take hold

Washed in tints of monochrome

Your embrace has left me bitter and cold

Standing before the mirror

No reflection, no secrets

Caresses laced with guilt behind a saccharine smile
