Testi

He tried to walk, and he tried to smile
as he stumbled his daughter down the aisle.
Dad's been drinking just a little while,
but he's got a whole lot to say
She let her mother pick the dress.
It was tacky at best.
But Mom complains a whole lot less
when you let her get her way.

As the bride locked eyes with her groom and his next of kin,
the soup-stained tie, the cheese and cracker grin,
Lorelei thought Shit. Well, that's it.
I never wanna see these people again.

And she ran, and she ran and ran.

She stole the limo, pawned the ring,
settled west of Silver Springs.
She bought a bar with a funny name
and all the heartache she could sell.
She made herself a bunch of friends
and fell in love every now and then.
When people asked her where she's been,
there's one story she would tell

About a bride locking eyes with her groom and his next of kin,
the milk toast lies, the candy apple gin,
Lorelei thought Shit. Well, that's it.
I never wanna see these people again.

Well, back here at the church,
the scene's been getting worse.
Mama starts to spit and curse,
and Daddy finds the bottle in her purse.
He and the groom are getting slammed.
They're throwing cake at the wedding band.
The Preacher says Dear God, when's this gonna end?
cause I never wanna see these people again.

Days wore on, and nights grew colder.
She felt herself getting older.
Sometimes she'd wish someone would hold her
and she'd think about her groom.
But all it takes is that one reminder
of the sliding door she left behind her,
the life she lost, hope it never finds her,
and she hums this little tune

About a bride locking eyes with her guy and his next of kin,
the soup-stained tie, the cheese and cracker grin,
Lorelei thought Shit. Well, that's it.
I never wanna see these people again.

And she ran, and she ran and ran.
