Self-control

God dammit

Self-control is about buying the biggest box of cookie dough you can buy

I've never really liked the term self control to be honest

Eating only half of it, and then baking the rest of them into warm delicious cookies

Self-control is not about being harsh with yourself

This is coming from someone who at one point in their life had no self control

For me self-control has been hard as fuck

I'll tell you what, without intention, self-control feels like punishment

It also means not behaving impulsively

Now that I'm thinking about it, there's two sides to self-control

Present you wants what feels good this very moment

Self-control

Future you wants what feels good later

And it is a constant thing that you do have to work at

The only way we can grow

I'm still working on it

Self-control to me is being able to create a space between a feeling and a reaction

It's important for me to have some self-control and ground myself

Self-control, power over emotions

Self-control breaks you down to who you are at the core of your person

To truly have self-control is to be at peace with the fact that you truly don't have control of anything

Self-control is a character trait for me

How much space do you hold for other people's actions that affect you

A test of the standard that you hold yourself to

When no one is watching

It's how much of yourself you allow people to see and have access to

I prefer to think about it as self-regulation instead of self-control

Which is like more intentional fine-tuning of impulses

Because sometimes our impulses can produce really wonderful outcomes

This allows me to frame the process as something that's more proactive instead of limiting

Self-control for me, as someone who seeks control, is letting go of it

Letting each moment come and go as they're supposed to

Without trying to alter things

Sitting back and enjoying the ride

Letting my thoughts be taken over by the positives rather than the negatives

Self-control for me is overcoming the emotion that wants to hover over the moment

And simply trusting the universe

Self-control means instant dopamine is not everything

That's fucking self-control, baby
