Spaceship - Steve Taylor
When I was just a kid, I always had a means of escape
Just climb under the basement stairs and blast off to outer space
But somewhere along the way, I lost the key to that place
So many years of growing up, so many lines upon my face
And when life gets too jaded
When the world seems so unfair
Wish I could still fly my spaceship
Underneath the basement stairs
It had a gigantic window, so I could wave to every star
A planetary intercom, so I could talk to those from mars
A switchboard made of Legos, and a gear shift from my old bike
Construction paper readouts, and an old string of Christmas lights
And you could be my co-pilot
We could venture anywhere
Come fly with me in my spaceship
Underneath the basement stairs
If mom doesn’t break the illusion and open up the door
Then you and I can boldly go where no one’s gone before
Let’s skate the rings of Saturn, like they do in the cartoons
Swing back through the Milky Way and have a picnic on the moon
We could travel at the speed of light
Stay young as long as we please
And do our best to test the theory of relativity
We could race with the comets
And we’ll never need repairs
Come fly with me in my spaceship
Underneath the basement stairs 3x
