So by this point
I wasn't chasing credibility no more
I had earned it
I had twelve albums released
Years behind the microphone
Years behind the mixing board
My publishing rights was secured
I built a studio from nothing
And I had enough experience to know
That there was still a lot that I didn't know
Because success has a funny way of doing that
The more you learn
The more you realize how much there is left to understand
So I made another decision
I went back to school
Not because I needed somebody to teach me how to make music
I had already spent a decade doing that
But I went because I wanted the understanding of the industry
The business
The opportunity
And honestly
The financial aid didn't hurt either
But when I walked onto that campus
I knew immediately
This wasn't like the last school I went to
This place was different
They had just invested one million dollars into the music department
State of the art equipment
Professional studios
Recording rooms
Production labs
Technology that I had only seen in magazines
And for a music guy
It felt like heaven
Everywhere I looked
There was creativity
People writing songs
Recording projects
Producing beats
Learning engineering
Living and breathing music
And unlike most students
I wasn't fresh out of high school
I was already in my thirties
I was old enough to be some of they big brothers or even they uncle
But age didn't bother me though
Because while they was learning the basics
I had already spent ten years running a studio
Ten years of solving problems
Ten years of recording artists
Ten years of figuring things out the hard way
And that's where the experience showed
The younger students noticed it
They'd ask me questions
Want advice
Want feedback on songs
Want guidance
Some of them started looking up to me
Not because I was famous
But because I had actually lived it
And surprisingly
Even some of the teachers respected my experience
They taught theory
But I brought practical knowledge
The kind that only comes from years of
Sessions, mistakes, successes, and failures
For the first time
I wasn't just a student
I was both a student and a teacher
And I loved it
At first my goal was simple
Get a degree in music
Finish what I started
And those letters behind my name
But then reality showed up
I had to take math
History
General education
Requirements that had nothing to do with microphones
Recording
Songwriting
Or production
And I remember thinking
"No, I came here for music
Not calculus
Not essays
Not ancient civilizations
But music"
So I adjusted my goal
Instead of chasing a full degree
I focused on what mattered most to me
The music program
The hands-on learning
The craft
And eventually
I completed it
A certificate in the completion of music
Some people might look at that
And think it wasn't a big deal
But me
It was everything
Because nobody gave it to me
I earned it
After all the setbacks
After all the detours
After all the times people told me music wasn't a real path
I sat in that classroom
And finished what I came to finish
And I walked away with something nobody couldn't take from me
Proof that the kid with the boombox
The teenager freestyling at lunch
The young man recording in garages and spare bedrooms
Had become a real student of the craft
And for the first time in a long time
I felt proud of myself
Not because I dropped twelve albums
Not because I had a studio
Not because I was getting money
But because I never stopped learning
And that's what separates dreamers from masters
Dreamers want success
Masters stay students forever
