I was only seven
But I remember everything
Funny how you can be a kid
And still carry pain for years
K.P.L, you did it again
I was seven, hearin' voices through the bedroom door
Didn't understand the fightin', I just knew it hurt
Mama told me go to sleep, but I couldn't close my eyes
I learned how to stay quiet when I heard somebody cry
Used to hide beneath my blanket when the house got loud
Wish somebody would've told me none of this was my fault
I was supposed to be outside, runnin' with my friends
Instead I learned at seven how a happy home could end
Walkin' into school pretendin' everything was fine
Teacher asked me what was wrong, I said, "I'm alright"
Kids laughin' at my shoes, laughin' at my clothes
I went home and kept it secret, nobody ever knows
On the school bus, sittin' quiet by the window
Watchin' everybody laughin', wishin' I could fit in too
Some days I got picked last, some days I ate alone
Seven years old, already feelin' on my own
Sunday morning, clean shirt, sittin' in the pew
Everybody talkin' 'bout the things that God can do
I prayed for peace at home, prayed my family wouldn't fight
Closed my eyes during the service, hoped we'd be alright
They told me have some faith, so I tried my best
But I was just a little kid with questions in my chest
After church, we walked outside, everybody seemed okay
But I knew we'd go back home and nothin' really changed
At the park with my friends, tryin' hard to laugh
They didn't know I was hurtin' underneath the mask
We played until the sunset, then everybody went home
I walked back by myself, already feelin' alone
Some friends said they'd stay, but they slowly disappeared
Didn't know what losin' people meant until I felt the fear
I thought bein' a kid meant nothin' could go wrong
Didn't know those little moments would become my songs
Seven
I still remember that kid
Same heart, just older now
And every song I write is somethin' he never got to say
I was only seven
I was only seven
K.P.L, you did it again
