Salt Lake City-area indie outfit the Brobecks was the long-running project formed, in part, by Dallon Weekes, who later went on to join Panic! At the Disco and then formed I Don't Know How But They Found Me. The Brobecks' blend of witty/snarky lyrics, clever pop hooks, and brash pop energy took its cues from the likes of XTC, Weezer, and Ben Folds Five. The original lineup of the Brobecks featured Weekes, Scott Jones, Matt Glass, and Michael Gross; over the years, the lineup would change several times. Following a self-titled debut, Szymanski was replaced by keyboardist and second guitarist Matt Seppi for the higher-profile The Happiest Nuclear Winter in 2005. Meanwhile, Gross was by this time splitting his time between the Brobecks and a folktronica duo called Let's Become Actors, who released their first album in 2006. Following the release of the Brobecks' third album, 2006's Goodnight, and Have a Pleasant Tomorrow, Gross left to concentrate on his other project, while the remaining members also parted ways with the band, leaving Weekes to recruit Josh Rhealt, Ryan Seaman, Connor Doyle, and Drew Davidson. The band's final album, Violent Things, arrived in 2009 (with a couple EPs popping up in the early 2010s). At that time, Weekes notably went on to join Panic! as a touring musician, becoming a full-time member from 2010 until 2017, when he parted ways with the indie-pop crew to form iDKHOW with fellow Brobeck Ryan Seaman. ~ TiVo Staff
