It Took the Flood

If I would commune with silent architects

Seeping through the limbic faults

I would be enlightened to the rewards

Of a scavenger

It took the flood to appreciate the bounty

How critical the fertile earth to reap

Sustained nourishment

Marred now, stippled with

Pristine scars smeared

Blackened, ambivalent

Our resignation

Is our disease

Prepare for construction

Of our identity

From nothing

It took the flood to scrub

The evidence of our prospects

And perennial nectar

It is for us to rediscover

Once again, we curse the passing time

But to surge in reprisal is to strengthen

Wary now, we rebuild with purpose

Resolute in our determination

To sculpt is to callous

Is it enough to prepare

For this noble pursuit?
