I’d rather give a man a fish

Than teach him to drain the sea

Seems anyone who gets their wish

Is scorned like an enemy

Why do we love when the mighty fall?

Conditioned to be so skeptical

Of everything that’s beautiful?

Like how the tallest blade of grass

Gets cut back down to size

And when technologies advance

How quickly they’re weaponized

Or how we bet on that love won’t last

Or slow the car when we see a crash

What is it we hope to see?

Maybe it’s a part of humanness

To bring down all our brightest and best

I guess that’s why we murder Jesuses

And massacre our masterpieces

We see the wonders of the wild

And lock them inside a cage

We take the spirit of a child

And bend it until it breaks

Like how we pave over paradise

And do it all for the low, low price

Of everything that matters most
