Yesterday, I woke to find the world was kind and that the sun had shone
Through my window on the bed where I had slept alone
And all my friends, had moved off years ago, but I just stayed right here in town
So when the phone rang I hoped that she'd finally come around
But one old friend was moving home, he said that he was on his way
Well I couldn't think of working, so I called in for the day
I haven't cut back drinking even though I know I should
Yesterday was rough, but tomorrow's looking pretty good
Well we just sat there on my front porch and we drank the day away
And laughed at how we thought our lives would turn out in our younger days
He said he hoped I was doing fine since dad had passed away
He heard about her leaving, knew that I'd seen better days
But I said no
A man can really find himself when he just lives alone
And dad told me he loved me last time we talked on the phone
My friend said that he'd better go, he had a lot of things to do
But that's when I decided I'd skip work the next day too
Maybe clear my head and take a long walk in the woods
Yesterday was rough, but tomorrow's looking pretty good
There's been days
When I just sit around and flip the channels on TV
But it felt so good just standing there surrounded by the trees
I wondered what it was that I had lost along the way
I live however much I bleed, so I guess I'll be okay
And then the world showed me some kindness as I went back to my room
As the sun went down in darkness, I caught a hint of her perfume
And I got fired but that was fine cause I'd had all I could take
And when she called turns out we both stayed faithful on the break
She's not ready to come back home, but now she thinks she could
Yesterday was rough but tomorrow's looking pretty good
